Russia Conference Projects

Conference participants
Working together

The 4th US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise in 2003 began offering Russian participants an opportunity to submit a proposal to conduct a project after the Conference Cruise to strengthen nursing and/or health care delivery in their work settings.  Discussions during the Conference Cruise provided an impetus and aid so the Russians could develop a proposal that was submitted at its end.  The invitation to Russians to submit a proposal was continued with the 5th US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise in 2005.  Based on the tremendous interest and increase in the number of proposals the Russian participants submitted in 2005, we eagerly look forward to continuing this aspect of the US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise for the 7th Conference Cruise scheduled for 2009.

These proposals provide a way to aid Russian nurses in being able to complete projects of interest and need in their work settings.  In conducting these projects, Russian nurses are able to make a difference for patients and families as well as other nurses and learn how they indeed can make a critical difference.  These projects also provide a way for participants from the US and other countries to support their Russian colleagues.  This support can take 2 forms: directly through funding these proposals with a small grant and/or indirectly through in-kind support of sharing resources such as teaching materials and aids and other kinds of information the Russians find helpful to the implementation of this projects.

Project Support

We are pleased to acknowledge a diverse group who have contributed funding for these projects:

  • Sigma Theta Tau International Chapters
  • Schools of Nursing
  • A non-profit organization
  • Individual donors
  • The US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise

With the 2005 Conference Cruise we were able to dramatically increase the number of projects funded from 2 to 8.  We are pleased to highlight the projects implemented after the 2003 Conference Cruise and ones currently being implemented as a result of the 2005 Conference Cruise.  We will provide information on the outcomes of these 2005 Conference Cruise projects on this website sometime in July-August as project reports are due the end of June, 2005.

With the major increase of funding 2 submissions in 2003 to 8 funded projects resulting from the 5th US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise in 2005, the US-Russian Nursing Conference Cruise is pleased to be able to coordinate a small grants program thanks to the generous support of the groups and individuals who fund these projects.  The initiation of a small grants program whereby Russian participants are able to implement projects after the Conference Cruise adds another unique feature and very valuable accomplishment of the US – Russian Nursing Conference Cruises
